Silicone Shell Candle Mold – Mold for Resin Seashell Figurines, Ocean Candles & Coastal Décor
Capture the beauty of the ocean in resin and wax with the Silicone Shell Candle Mold from THE CRAFT STATION MOLDS. This food-grade platinum silicone mold replicates the intricate ridged exterior and curved form of a natural seashell — ideal for crafting epoxy resin seashell figurines, scented soy wax shell candles, ocean-themed plaster décor, and cold-process seashell soaps. BPA-free, non-toxic, and built for 100+ uses, this mold is a staple for any ocean-themed handmade product line.
Pair it with the Seahorse Candle Mold (available separately in our silicone molds collection) to complete a stunning ocean collection — the shell and seahorse together create a cohesive beach-themed gift set that sells beautifully at craft markets and on online platforms.
What Is the Shell Candle Mold?
The Shell Candle Mold is a reusable platinum silicone mold shaped like a classic ridged seashell — capturing the spiral ridges, curved contours, and pointed apex of a natural shell. The highly flexible silicone allows for smooth demolding and easy release from the cavity without damage to the fine surface detail. No mold release spray is needed for epoxy or UV resin; a light mold release dusting is optional for wax or plaster for the cleanest result.
This mold is suitable for deep figurines, making the two-layer pour technique the recommended approach for epoxy resin to avoid exotherm cracking and yellowing in thick pours.
Compatible Materials
- Epoxy Resin (3:1 ratio) – use a two-layer pour for deep shell cavities; mix at 3:1 by volume, add ocean blue, aqua, or sandy beige pigments, cure 24–48 hours
- UV Resin – cure in 3–4 mm layers under a 36W+ UV lamp for 2–5 minutes per layer; wipe oxygen inhibition layer with IPA after final cure
- Soy Wax – pour at 50–55°C; use a wick holder to centre the wick before wax sets for a shell-shaped pillar candle
- Paraffin Wax – pour at 60–65°C for crisp, firm shell candles with high-detail ridge clarity
- Cold-Process Soap – no mold release needed on platinum silicone; demold after 24–48 hours, then cure 4–6 weeks
- Plaster & Concrete – pour at room temperature for minimalist coastal décor pieces; seal with spray varnish after curing
How to Use – Two-Layer Epoxy Resin Shell Figurine (Step-by-Step)
Step 1 – Prepare resin: Mix epoxy resin at 3:1 by volume (Part A : Part B) using a digital scale. Stir slowly for 3–4 minutes. Keep both layers premixed and ready.
Step 2 – Add ocean colours: Divide the mixed resin between two cups. Tint one ocean blue or aqua and another pearl white or sandy beige. Swirl both colours together for a realistic shell appearance.
Step 3 – First layer pour: Pour the first resin layer to fill the shell cavity approximately halfway. Remove bubbles with a heat gun. Allow this layer to cure for 12–18 hours until firm but slightly tacky.
Step 4 – Second layer pour: Pour the second layer to fill the remaining cavity to the top. This two-step method prevents heat build-up (exotherm) in deep pours and eliminates cracking.
Step 5 – Full cure: Allow the shell to cure fully for 24–48 hours from the second pour before demolding.
Step 6 – Demold & finish: Flex the silicone mold gently and press from the base — the shell figurine releases cleanly. Sand any flash lines with 400-grit sandpaper. Apply a UV resin or epoxy gloss coat for a glossy mirror finish that mimics a wet sea-polished shell.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the two-layer pour technique and why is it needed?
For deep molds like this shell, pouring all the resin at once can generate excessive heat (exothermic reaction) that may yellow or crack the resin. The two-layer technique fills the mold halfway, cures for 12–18 hours, then adds the second layer. This distributes heat across two smaller pours and produces a crack-free, crystal-clear result.
Can I make a wick shell candle with this mold?
Yes. Centre a cotton wick using a wick holder bar across the top of the mold before pouring the wax. Pour soy wax at 50–55°C and allow to cool at room temperature. Trim the wick to 5–6 mm before the first burn.
Does the shell mold pair with the Seahorse Candle Mold?
Yes — the Shell Candle Mold and Seahorse Candle Mold form a natural ocean collection pair. Use matching ocean blue + aqua pigments in both for a cohesive beach-themed gift set or home décor display.
Do I need mold release spray?
Not for epoxy resin or cold-process soap — platinum silicone provides natural easy release. A light mold release spray is optional for wax or plaster to achieve the cleanest surface finish.
How do I get a glossy, wet-looking finish on my resin shell?
After demolding and sanding, apply a thin layer of UV resin or a self-levelling epoxy doming resin over the shell surface. Cure under a 36W UV lamp for a high-gloss mirror finish that mimics a freshly polished seashell.
