What Is the Astronaut Candle Mold?

The Astronaut Candle Mold from THE CRAFT STATION MOLDS is a food-grade platinum silicone mould in a 3D astronaut character shape — designed for candle making, epoxy resin figurine casting, plaster art, and cold-process soap. With its detailed space-suit silhouette and BPA-free, non-toxic construction, it produces crisp, gallery-ready astronaut figures that are as popular for space-themed home décor as they are for gifting and workshop projects.

Whether you're making a galaxy-core epoxy paperweight, a soy wax astronaut candle for Diwali gifting, or a set of astronaut soap bars for a themed birthday kit, this mould delivers sharp definition and easy release every time — with 100+ uses guaranteed from premium platinum silicone.

Compatible Materials

The Astronaut Candle Mold works with a wide range of casting materials:

  • Epoxy Resin 3:1 (Part A : Part B by volume) — cure 24–48 hours; pour in two layers for deep pours to prevent exotherm and cracking; mix galaxy colours, glitter, and foil for space-themed figurines
  • UV Resin — single-component; cure 2–5 minutes per layer under a 36W+ UV lamp; max layer depth 3–4mm; wipe oxygen-inhibition layer with IPA after cure
  • Soy Wax — pour at 50–55°C; add fragrance at 6–10% of wax weight; insert wick at partial-set stage with a wick holder to keep it centred
  • Paraffin Wax — pour at 60–65°C; suitable for pillar and novelty candles
  • Cold-Process Soap — no mould release spray required on platinum silicone; demold after 24–48 hours; allow a 4–6 week cure period before use
  • Plaster of Paris & Concrete — vibrate to remove air pockets; release cleanly after full set

How to Use the Astronaut Candle Mold – Step-by-Step

For Epoxy Resin Astronaut Figurines

  1. Prepare the mold — Place the mold on a flat, level surface. No mold release spray needed on platinum silicone; for extra easy release, a light coat of mold release spray can be used.
  2. Mix resin — Combine epoxy resin at a 3:1 ratio (Part A : Part B by volume), stirring slowly for 3–4 minutes. Add galaxy blue, deep purple, or space black pigment; swirl holographic glitter or gold foil flakes through for a nebula effect.
  3. Pour in two layers — Fill halfway first. Cure 12–18 hours or until firm, then pour the second layer. This avoids exotherm cracking in a deep 3D mold.
  4. Add inclusions — At the partial-gel stage (20–40 minutes after mixing the second layer), embed glow-in-the-dark stars or crystal beads using tweezers.
  5. Full cure — Allow 24–48 hours at room temperature, covered to prevent dust.
  6. Demold — Gently flex the silicone mold outward from all sides, then push the base to release the astronaut. Platinum silicone releases cleanly with no residue.

For Astronaut Candles (Soy / Paraffin Wax)

  1. Thread the wick through the mould's base hole (or bottom opening) and tie it to a wick holder / skewer placed across the top to keep it centred during pour.
  2. Melt soy wax to 50–55°C (paraffin: 60–65°C). Add dye chips and fragrance oil at 6–10% of wax weight, stirring well.
  3. Pour wax slowly to fill the mold. Tap gently to release air bubbles.
  4. Allow to cool fully (4–6 hours) at room temperature. Do not move while cooling — uneven cooling causes surface cracks.
  5. Demold by flexing the silicone. Trim the wick to 6–8mm before lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this mold suitable for candles or only resin?

Both. The Astronaut Candle Mold is designed for candle making (soy wax 50–55°C, paraffin 60–65°C) and for epoxy resin casting. It also works with cold-process soap and plaster of Paris. The food-grade platinum silicone is heat-resistant and safe for all of these applications.

How do I centre the wick in the astronaut candle mold?

Thread the wick through the wick hole at the base of the mold and tie the top of the wick to a skewer or wick holder resting across the opening of the mold. This holds the wick centred while you pour and while the wax sets. Once the candle is fully cooled and demolded, trim the wick to 6–8mm before the first burn.

Do I need mold release spray?

No — food-grade platinum silicone releases epoxy resin and wax cleanly without any release spray. For heavy-body concrete or plaster pours, a light coat of petroleum jelly on the mold interior can make release easier, but it is not required.

Why should I pour epoxy in two layers for this mold?

A 3D character mold like this astronaut has significant depth. A single large epoxy pour generates heat (exotherm) as it cures — enough heat to crack or warp the mold interior and cause yellowing in the finished piece. Pouring in two layers (fill halfway → cure 12–18 hours → pour the second half) distributes the exotherm safely and produces a clearer, more defect-free figurine.

Can I embed LED lights in the resin astronaut?

Yes — this is one of the most popular techniques for space-themed resin art. Pour the first layer and cure fully. Place a small coin-cell LED or fibre optic strand on the cured surface, then pour the encapsulating layer. The LED sits suspended inside the clear resin. Wire can be routed through the mold's base hole before pouring.

How do I clean and store the mold?

Wash with mild soap and lukewarm water after each use. Avoid abrasive scrubbers — they scratch the silicone surface and reduce mold life. Store flat or upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sharp objects. Do not fold or crease the mold.

Is this available for bulk / wholesale purchase?

Yes — only 2 units in stock currently. For bulk reorders or wholesale workshop kits, contact us on WhatsApp to check restock timelines and B2B pricing.
