What Is the Candle Needle?

The Candle Needle from THE CRAFT STATION MOLDS is a precision wick-threading and wick centering tool designed for handmade candles, pillar moulds, tealight containers, and wax melt moulds. Whether you're threading a cotton wick through a narrow silicone candle mold or keeping a wick perfectly centred before your wax reaches pour temperature, this slender tool gives you the control that separates a professional candle from an amateur one.

Priced at just ₹120, the Candle Needle is an essential addition to every candle making India starter kit and professional workshop alike. If you've ever struggled with a wick that shifted mid-pour or a centering device that slipped, this is the craft tool that solves it — simple, reliable, and built for daily use. We're in stock and ready to dispatch today.

Compatible Wax Types & Materials

The Candle Needle works seamlessly with all common candle-making substrates and every wax you'll work with:

Soy wax — the eco-friendly choice for container and pillar candles; pair with a cotton wick threaded cleanly through this needle for a smooth, even burn. Paraffin wax — the classic candle material, ideal for pillar and taper moulds where the wick must pass through a base hole. Beeswax — natural and aromatic; even pre-waxed wicks sometimes need careful placement that this tool enables. Gel wax — crystal-clear embed candles where wick placement is critical to a clean, even burn. Wax melts — for moulded wax melts with a wick, thread cleanly and pour. The needle is also compatible with fragrance oil workflows — it's used before the pour, so your chosen fragrance load has no bearing on performance.

How to Use the Candle Needle

Using the Candle Needle is straightforward, even for first-time candle makers — here's the step-by-step process:

Step 1 — Prepare your mold: Clean and dry your silicone or metal candle mold. For silicone candle molds, apply a light mist of mold release spray at the base hole to ease wick threading and later demolding.

Step 2 — Thread the wick: Insert the pointed tip of the Candle Needle through the wick hole at the base of the mold. Thread your cotton wick through the needle's eye and pull it through until you have enough length at the top to centre and secure.

Step 3 — Secure the base: Use a wick sticker or a small dab of putty to hold the wick flat at the mold base, preventing movement during the pour.

Step 4 — Centre at the top: Lay a wick bar or the Candle Needle itself across the top rim of the mold and wind the excess wick around it to keep the wick taut and perfectly vertical.

Step 5 — Pour at correct temperature: Pour your melted wax at the correct pour temperature — 55–65°C for soy wax, 65–75°C for paraffin wax. Pour slowly around the wick, not directly onto it, to avoid displacement.

Step 6 — Cure completely: Allow the candle to cool fully. Curing time for soy wax candles is 24–48 hours for optimal fragrance throw; paraffin wax sets faster but benefits from resting overnight. Do not rush demolding.

Step 7 — Trim and finish: Trim the wick to 5–6 mm before the first burn. For mold candles, flex the silicone mold gently for easy release — demolding is smooth when the wick was properly centered during the pour.

Candle Making Projects You Can Create

With the Candle Needle as part of your candle making India toolkit, these projects become far more precise and professional:

Pillar candles using silicone or aluminium moulds require the wick to be threaded through a centre hole at the mold base — this needle is the right tool for that job, every time. Soy container candles in glass jars need the wick centred before pouring; a drifting wick causes uneven burns and tunnelling. Layered colour candles require the wick to stay centred through multiple pours at different temperatures; the needle makes the threading step clean before the first layer. Embed candles with dried flower or wax embed details need careful wick placement that doesn't shift when you reposition embeds. Wax melt tarts with a wick benefit from clean threading and a centered pour. Festival and gifting candles — handmade candles are a popular DIY gift for Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, and weddings; professional-looking handmade candles start with a perfectly centered wick, and the Candle Needle is what makes that happen at scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a candle needle used for?
A: A candle needle is a craft tool used to thread a wick through the base hole of a candle mold and to help center the wick in container candles. It's essential for pillar candles, mold candles, and any project where wick placement determines an even burn.

Q: Can I use the candle needle with soy wax candles?
A: Yes — it's compatible with all wax types including soy wax, paraffin wax, beeswax, and gel wax. The needle is used before the wax is poured, so wax type doesn't affect performance.

Q: What is the correct pour temperature for soy wax?
A: Soy wax is typically poured at 55–65°C. Pouring too hot can cause sinkholes, surface cracks, or fragrance separation. The Candle Needle ensures your wick stays centered while you pour at the right temperature.

Q: What fragrance load can I use with soy wax?
A: Soy wax generally holds a 6–10% fragrance load by weight. Add your fragrance oil when the wax cools to around 55°C for best scent throw and to avoid scorching the fragrance molecules.

Q: Do I need mold release spray with the candle needle?
A: If you're using a silicone candle mold, a light mist of mold release spray at the wick hole makes threading easier and helps with demolding after curing. The needle itself doesn't require spray.

Q: What is the curing time for a soy wax candle?
A: Soy wax candles benefit from a full 24–48 hour curing time after setting before the first burn. This allows the fragrance to fully bind with the wax and ensures the best possible scent throw.
