What Is 3:1 Epoxy Resin 4kg?

This is our full-size epoxy resin and hardener kit — 3kg resin plus 1kg hardener, mixed at a 3:1 ratio by weight. It's the same crystal-clear, low-viscosity, self-levelling formula as our 400gm and 1.2kg packs, just in the volume serious hobbyists and small resin businesses actually need. One 4kg kit typically covers a full tabletop pour, a batch of 30-40 coasters, or several deep-cast trays without running out mid-project — no more stopping halfway through a large pour to mix a second batch.

How to Use This Resin — Step by Step

1. Measure by weight, in batches: For large pours, mix in stages of 1-1.5kg total at a time rather than the full 4kg at once — this keeps exotherm (heat build-up) manageable and gives you more working time. Always weigh 3 parts resin to 1 part hardener on a digital scale.
2. Combine and mix thoroughly: Stir each batch for 3-4 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom of your mixing container. Incomplete mixing is the top cause of sticky spots in large pours.
3. Add colour in batches: If pouring a multi-colour piece (river tables, ocean art), mix each colour batch separately at under 5% pigment by weight before combining pours.
4. Pour in layers for deep sections: For pours deeper than 2cm, pour in layers of 1-1.5cm and let each layer gel for 6-8 hours before adding the next. This prevents excess heat build-up and cracking in thick sections.
5. Remove bubbles: Pass a heat gun in quick, even passes over each layer. For large surfaces, work in sections rather than trying to cover the whole pour at once.
6. Cure fully before demolding or sanding: Touch-dry in 24 hours; full cure in 48-72 hours; maximum hardness at 7 days. Large pours benefit from the full week before heavy handling.
7. Finish: Sand any rough edges with 400-grit wet-and-dry sandpaper and buff with resin polish for a showroom-glossy finish.
