How to Open and Close Jump Rings

Step 1 – Use Two Pairs of Pliers

Never pull a jump ring apart by stretching it outward — this distorts the circular shape and weakens the metal permanently. Hold the jump ring with two pairs of flat-nose or chain-nose pliers and twist the two ends apart sideways (forward and backward, not left and right). This preserves the round shape for a tight, secure closure after assembly.

Step 2 – Thread Your Resin Pendant

Slide the open jump ring through the bail or loop at the top of your cured resin pendant or charm. Make sure the pendant is fully cured (epoxy resin: 24–48 hours) before attaching findings — uncured resin surfaces can be sticky and tacky to the touch.

Step 3 – Thread the Chain or Finding

With the pendant on the open jump ring, also thread the chain link, earring hook, or other jewellery finding you want to connect.

Step 4 – Close the Jump Ring

Twist the ends back together until they meet flush — a properly closed jump ring should have no visible gap when viewed from the front. A gap-free closure ensures the pendant won't slip off in daily wear.

Step 5 – Check All Connections
